Frequently Asked Questions

You are in: Frequently Asked Questions

I have produced a 3D model using SketchUp – what’s the next step?

We can publish all kinds of 3D models using the iViewer, whatever software you have used to create them – SketchUp, ArchiCAD, 3DS Max, Revit, Maya and so on. Send us your model file in its native format (or discuss with us the best compatible formats for our system) and we’ll analyse how much work is involved to optimise it and publish it as an interactive application.

I have 2-dimensional CAD drawings of a new building – can you produce the interactive model?

At iCreate, our background is in 3D architectural visualisation, so our team are experts at creating detailed and accurate 3D models from your 2D drawings and plans. Send through the CAD drawings for a quotation.

Can the interactive models be embedded within a website?

Yes, the iViewer can be used to embed interactive 3D models in a website, so that online users can play around with the 3D model. The only drawback is that they would need to download a small plug-in to do so. We typically recommend the option of a self-contained .exe file, as no plug-in is required. The .exe file can be accessed via a website, and reference online models.

Is the iViewer a piece of software that I can use?

We are currently offering the iViewer as a service rather than a software product. This means that you will need to send your 3D models to us for analysis, optimisation and publication in the iViewer. We will then give back a self contained .exe file which presents your model as an interactive application. The first step is to submit your model to us for analysis (free of charge) so that we can quote for the amount of work required to optimise and publish it using the iViewer.

Do I need a powerful computer to view iViewer models?

A key advantage of the iViewer solution is that the models are optimised prior to publication, so this means they will run on any reasonably modern PC. If you experience long delays loading and running 3D model files in SketchUp, 3DS Max or other packages, the iViewer could present a great solution for presenting 3D models which will run smoothly and load quickly. Most of the complex lighting and materials are pre-rendered and baked into the models before they are published, thereby reducing the amount of work that your local graphics processors need to do. Thanks to the growth of the computer games industry, even quite cheap new computers now come equipped with sufficient graphics capabilities to run sophisticated 3D applications. This is a technical way of explaining that, no, you do not need a powerful computer to run iViewer models!

Does it work on an Apple Mac?

Unfortunately our system uses DirectX, and therefore won’t run on the Apple Mac platform. iViewer models are suitable for PC users only.

If I send you my model, will you respect my client’s confidentiality and my IPR?

Any model that is submitted to iCreate is covered by our standard non-disclosure agreement, which guarantees that we won’t use, reproduce or edit your model for any purpose other than to analyze, optimise and publish it in the iViewer. We also guarantee to protect your confidentiality. On occasion, we like to show demos of client projects as part of our marketing activity, but if you ask us not to, we will ensure that your model is never shown to any audiences other than those that you show it to.
